Still on the fence? Here is a sneak peek of some of the people, places and food that will be making September’s adventure a jolly good time.

Your brilliant bus buddies

City of Parramatta, City of Sydney, and MinterEllison and Future Super are our 4 generous sponsors for this initiative that allowed us to provide 15 sponsored seats on the trip. After an arduous selection process, with an abundance of deserving social entrepreneurs who applied, the decisions were made. Here’s a spotlight on three of our sponsored superstars!

Meet Hedayat Osyan of CommUnity Construction!

Hedayat was picked by City of Parramatta who were impressed by his pioneering social enterprise construction business. A former refugee from Afghanistan who holds a Bachelor Degree of Politics and International Relations and an Honours Degree of Arts and Design from the University of Canberra, Nick is now a social entrepreneur who wants to give back to the community. The mission of his social enterprise is to employ refugees and asylum seekers as tradies and even offer them apprenticeships wherever possible. What better way to find stability in a new country than to be given work with fair and safe conditions and learn valuable new skills?

Meet Brendan Lonergan from Beehive Industries!

Selected by City of Sydney, this social enterprise has been around for 50 years and still works tirelessly to help the vulnerable in Sydney beat isolation and loneliness. In a society that does not always value its elders and people with disabilities, this organisation encourages physical and mental well-being and the nurturing of a sense of identity. It assists seniors to eat well, be more active and feel part of their community. Beehive Industries also aims to give persons living with a disability opportunities to participate in the community in a socially inclusive setting and provides employment readiness training and support helping them become more independent. What busy bees they are!

Meet Fiona Harrison from Chocolate On Purpose™!

Fiona is a Wiradjuri Woman of the Belubula & Macquarie Rivers and founder and CEO of a unique social enterprise that fuses a love for chocolate with social good. Chosen by MinterEllison, Fiona is a pioneer, founding the first 100% Indigenous owned chocolate business in Australia. Chocolate On Purpose™ assists Indigenous Australian native botanical producers, and world cacao farmers, to greater participation in their supply chains. Not only do they give these producers opportunity, they also manufacture an incredible product for us all to savour, by fusing the finest chocolate in the world with the best of Australian native botanicals. Through the love for chocolate, Chocolate On Purpose™ makes a great contribution to Reconciliation, and the protection and empowerment of Australia’s First Nations People.

What better way to connect with these legends than by sharing an adventure with them?

Spotlight on the fabulous food (with a purpose!)

With the community that the SEWF and StartSomeGood attract, we know that people tend to think a little deeper about their consumption and use it as an opportunity to have a positive impact on the world. We have done our best to seek out eateries that provide more than just a delicious meal. We wanted to connect with businesses that provide food with a purpose. We believe that this element is the secret sauce to taking a meal to a whole new level of deliciousness. Here are two of the eateries we will be visiting:

Harvest, Newrybar

Harvest is an iconic hub in Newrybar for impeccable culinary experiences, famous for its emphasis on showcasing the culinary diversity of the region by supporting local and small-scale suppliers. We will be stopping by at their snack bar “The Deli” on our way into Byron for a light lunch, before heading to our next event.

To set the scene, Harvest finds its home inside a converted old Queenslander on the edge of the Byron hinterland. Take your pick of freshly made sandwiches or pastries supplied from the 118-year old historic Bakery and grab a coffee from the coffee truck if you need a pick-me-up!

The spacious gardens will be available for casual strolling and chats in the sunshine, leaving you rejuvenated and ready to head into Byron Bay for our networking event!

Organic Cuisine and Arts (OCA Cuisine), Byron Bay

Our dinner at OCA Cuisine will be more than just a journey for the tastebuds. Alongside a fully organic and vegetarian meal, you will be transported by the unique flavours of Brazilian cuisine, while being treated to live music from local musicians. OCA Byron Bay is made up of a team of passionate chefs and farmers. They are a not-for-profit business, united by a vision to transform the way our food is grown and delivered to the table. They operate under the ethos that food is medicine, which informs their choices from seed to table. Alongside their function as a restaurant, OCA runs educational community events with the aim to encourage local regenerative practices.

You will get to experience first-hand, eating the fresh produce from local small-scale farms using regenerating practices, and we’ll even have an opportunity to chat to the dedicated head chef Bruno Assuncao, and the OCA team about what they do.

Great people, fab food, positive impacts all-round. We can’t wait to let the good times roll with you!
